back to school, back to life September 8, 2009

So, life has been crazy.  In order to fix this, I upped and moved.  Seriously.  I had to get away from The Drama(tm).  I made some serious changes.  The largest of which is going back to school.  And not just taking a couple of classes while still working at the credit union and living at home, but moving across the state to School #4 (Mass College of Liberal Arts) as a full-time student and on-campus resident.  It’s a big and very scary change, but one I seriously needed to do.  I’m all moved in, met the roommates, who seem nice if a little cliquish.

See the bedspread, it’s a duvet cover I made myself!

Yea.  I am now about five minutes from my bff Rachel too, which is a huge perk!  Other major changes include some serious therapy that has been life-changing.  I realized that I am soooo much stronger than I ever thought I was capable of being.  I’ve learned that as weak as I sometimes think it is, I am the victim of some serious shit and some crappy parenting.  I don’t have to be the care-taker and don’t have to fix everything.  It’s not my job.  My job is to be a young adult, discover and take care of myself, even though it feels a little selfish.

The other changes are a little superficial, but still pretty fun.  I’ve lost 20 pounds.  I put purple in my hair (which has already faded, but I’m gonna redo it soon).  I’ve left my job at the bank so now I’m in super-cute jeans (two sizes smaller than I used to wear, woot!), my nose ring is always in and my tattoos aren’t covered up.  I have a bit more free time than I’m used to, but that will probably change when classes start tomorrow.  I dunno, I’ve started just taking care of myself in general, a definite good thing.  Although, I really need to find a new part-time gig, my finds are running a bit low and I have bills to pay.  I made a contact at the LYS though.  The owner was a sweetheart and I asked if they needed any help and she took my number.  It’s a bit of a drive, but its a start.

Well, I guess that’s it.  I’m going to try to blog more often.  No promises, but I’ll try.

Oh, I’ve also learned that I am a steampunk-wannabe.

Like the new look? I have a new banner via pink-eagle17!  Ain’t it pretty?  I have been bouncing around between True Blood and Twilight so much lately.  I’m blaming it on my cousin Eve.  She’s 13 and visiting from England and we are kindred spirits.  Last night at dinner we talked about Twilight for a good hour or so.  She said that she liked talking to someone older (thanks Eve) cause I could explain things she didn’t get.  Her mom hasn’t read the books and all her friends are obviously her own age, so they are all in the same boat as her.  I’m trying to think of what we talked about, but I can’t remember it.  Mostly her questions were about the relationships between characters.  I had so much fun talking about the books again with someone new that I want to read them again (surprise, surprise).  I have a book and a half left in the True Blood/Sookie series.  So, as soon as I finish those I think I will give up on the listening to the Outlander series and start up again on the Twilight saga.  I’m also eagerly anticipating my Twilight Scrabble Tile from Stitch-n-Snitch!  She put it in the mail a couple of days ago so I will probably get it tomorrow or the next day.

Remember that paper I was having so much trouble writing last week?  Guess what I’m procrastinating by blogging?  Finishing the stupid thing.  My professor even gave me an extension without a penalty (because she’s wicked nice, I didn’t even ask for one).  Glah!  I need to get to work.  I was up till 3ish writing a paper last night too.

I have awesome Halloween news, but I really have to get to work, so I’ll share tomorrow.  See ya!

stupid procrastination.  it’s 2:30 am and I have a paper due in exactly 12 hours.  wouldn’t be a big deal if I didn’t have to work at 7:45 tomorrow.  it’s supposed to e 5 pages minimum and I have one and a half.  I think I’m going to make a poor decision here and call it a night and turn it in on Tuesday.  I re-read the syllabus and it said there would be a whole letter grade penalty for every class it isn’t turned in, but I’d rather turn in A material and get a B than turn in a piece of crap and get a D.  Soooo… good night.

I managaed to successfully talk myself into that far too easily.

Here’s some more Show And Tell.

Yesterday in my Adolescent Psych class we had the rather silly assignment of drawing our own personal Coat of Arms.  It was pretty fun though and I did some good sketching (the bottom) that I wanted to share.  Knitters and book lovers unite!  Granted I misquoted Tolkien, but hey, I didn’t have it on me.  Still, enjoy:

So, I’ve been thinking about posting some of my poetry from my Creative Writing class on here.  I never thought of myself as a poet, but since starting this class I’ve really begun to enjoy writing it (not so much on the reading it though).  So, this may or may not be a regular thing.  I haven’t decided yet.  I might end up making them password protected, maybe.  For now, here is my poem from today’s class.  The assignment was to write a poem from somebody else’s point of view.  There were many options, such as a family member, a famous person, a foreign (to you) person, etc.  I chose a fictional famous person: Anne Elliot of Jane Austen’s Persuasion.

Weee! I’m a student again! I had my first classes today in two years.  Well, I guess just one year cause I took a couple of classes at a community college, but that’s not like *real* college.  I’m sorry if I’m offending any commcollege students, but the one I went to was kind of sucky and you didn’t get the community feeling you get at a traditional school.

So, I went to campus a couple of hours early to buy books and get my student id.  But I ended up having way too much time.  I had General Psych and Creative Writing today!  They were fun.  Well, the Psych class seems like it will be easy.  The Creative Writing class seems like it will be a lot of fun.  Tomorrow I work at 7:15 then I have class at 2:30.  Tomorrow is Adolescent Psychology.  It should be interesting.

Niels was supposed to come to Metro, but I don’t think he did unless he had come and gone by the time I got there.  I didn’t work today, but left my car there and walked to campus.  If he didn’t come today than maybe he’ll be there tomorrow or Friday.  I’m a bit nervous.

I’m getting sleepy.  My campus is a hill.  Seriously, the entire campus is on a hill.  I walked up that giant hill three times.  Once carrying my laptop.  That’s gonna be a bitch.  My laptop is wicked heavy.  I think I need a better bag for it, maybe.  Or just a lighter laptop.  Too bad I can’t afford it really.  Well, I could, but I can’t justify buying a new laptop when mine still works fine.

Grr… sorry, I’m exhausted.

Decisions, Traveling, and Everything May 10, 2008

I’d like to call this segment: Super Update!

So, I got home from a trip to Georgia and South Carolina on Tuesday.  It was really nice.  I had no idea how fun a spontaneous trip like that could be.  Or how stressful.  It was all scheduled in less than a week.  I had to work at 7:15 am on Friday, got out early at 12, Lynne drove me to the Logan Express (a shuttle bud that takes you to the Boston Airport) and I flew out around 2 pm.  My grandparents picked me up and I stayed with them for the long weekend.  On Saturday morning, my granddad and I woke up early and drove two hours north to Clemson, South Carolina.  The campus was beautiful.  I wish I had taken some pictures, but it was kind of rainy, so they wouldn’t have done it any justice.  Clemson is a gorgeous school though.  I pretty much fell in love.  Sunday we didn’t do much of anything.  In fact I was fighting a nasty cold and that was the worst day of it, so since I didn’t get any sleep the night before, I slept all day.  My Gramcraker was pretty sick so she was in bed all day too.  We’re a bunch on bumps on a log.  Monday all three of us drove to Savannah to see Armstrong Atlantic State.  We spent about 11 hours in the car all day to visit a school that I could tell that I would never like within the first five minutes of driving onto campus.  It was such a waste and there was so much traffic and so little time left in the day left that we couldn’t even explore Savannah.  So, we went home and woke up early again on Tuesday to go to the airport.  The end.

So, once Armstrong was out of the race, I came up with a pro/con list for the remaining two schools:

Clemson Pros:

  • In the south, where I want to relocate
  • Close to my grandparents
  • Fantastic education
  • Name power
  • The real college experience
  • Living on campus again

Clemson Cons:

  • Ridiculously expensive
  • Strict residency laws
  • No guaranteed housing
  • Very rural setting
  • Finding a part-time job will likely be difficult

Framingham Pros:

  • Wicked cheap
  • Close to home, so I can commute
  • No rent living at home
  • I already have a steady job that I can easily move to part-time in
  • Has a good Psych department
  • I can afford a new car

Framingham Cons:

  • Close to home
  • Living at home
  • I already have a steady job… that I hate
  • Snow

I’ve pretty much made my decision, but I’m not going to post it until its pretty much written in stone.  I kept going back and forth, but I think now I’m pretty sure now.  Ok, I have to go to sleep.  I’m very tired.
